9AM: We Are All the Children of Detroit

January 22, 2016

The names and faces behind the reason for the depravity of Detroit’s school situation matter little. What matters is those kids and the education needed to get them out of Detroit.

Most, if not all of us have been the kids of Detroit. We have tried to leave a situation, a relationship, a past, or our upbringing, but because of limited resources and assistance we were forced to remain in an unhealthy environment.

Can you recall that feeling from a past experience? Do you remember how you felt? How suffocating the circumstance was?

What kind of people are we if we allow kids in our own country to suffer like this? It comes down to a simple observation, would I want this kind of education for my child? If the answer is no then action is required. Period.

This is a human rights issue. These kids have the right to a roach, rat, and mold free education. They have the right to physical fitness in a suitable gym and decent books to learn from.

What can we do as engaged citizens?

·      Make some noise! Do this on social media and anywhere large amounts of people meet. State your concerns to your followers using appropriate hashtags.

·      Reach out to teachers in Detroit via social media asking what they need for their classes (ie, books, supplies, etc)

·      Make it happen. Whether it is a box of rulers or textbooks, engage, and respond. Do what you can.

@earlinagreen

If you are still not convinced this is a human rights issue take a look at the type of education these kids are receiving.

If you are to go anywhere in life you must have imagination.

Imagination allows you to see past what is to what can be.

9 AM: Higher Needs

January 12, 2016 in Culture

We leave something out in the race to achievement if we forget to address our higher needs.

Most of us would like to have a lovely family, good kids, drive a nice car and live in a fine home; but what about our higher needs of esteem, love, belonging, safety and self-actualization?

These needs primarily fly under the radar to our most outward desires, and even though we may not discuss them they are needs that need to be fulfilled as well.

What if I told you that having a strong need for power and praise was just a symptom of a deeper need for esteem, and the strong need for material gain was to fill the void of wanting to belong and feel love. All desires turned outward to feel internal needs.

In my own life, when I’ve desired things and positions over relationships and people I was left empty and uninspired. When I began putting people over possessions and mission over position I found my purpose.

Dig Deep

Let me encourage you to dig deep when it comes to your relationships. You have a lot to give and you won’t know what you have until you give it away. Challenge your way of thinking by surrounding yourself with people who think different then you.

Love

Love with your whole heart and find a reason to see the good in people. Doing so is truly the best way to have your higher needs fulfilled.

9:00 AM: STARVED

January 06, 2016 in Culture, Millenial Faith

We were created by God to be Kings and Queens, heirs to a throne, but we chose money and popularity instead. We are starving for love and belonging and we don't know it.

In gathering information for my second book, I've come across some outstanding material that can assist us in explaining what the heck is going on with the world today?

The thesis that I am working to prove, the world is the way it is because we have forgotten that each other exist.

The young boy of a different race who is gunned down could just as well be my own brother. The young women exploited on the television screen for my entertainment could be my sister or daughter, both deserve better.

We have placed a large distance between ourselves, which has caused us to forget that we are in this together.

If history tells us anything, we tend to  choose the preservation of ourselves over the person next to us. If true, what does the future hold and how long can this 'party' last?

I challenge you to look your truth in the eye, stare it down, and question its existence in relation to humanity. If it is solely focused on absolute consumption, reconsider, because we are in this together.
